The term ‘community energy’ is used wherever a community generates renewable energy collectively. At its best, it is also where the community shares this energy at a local level.
Today, it also includes efforts made by communities to reduce energy consumption by insulating buildings, promoting sustainable transport and changing people’s habits to use less energy.

The Big Picture
Communities have been generating their own energy since Victorian times. This was undertaken by town and city councils setting up their own gas, water, and eventually electricity supplies.

The Small Picture
The people in the Meadows collectively generate a substantial amount of energy. At the beginning of 2021, we had over 250 PV installations generating over 329,837 kWh per year of electricity.
